I hate writing sad posts... and I feel I must be one of the unluckiest bunny mums in the world right now. Three of my fluffy friends have passed away since we started this blog. Blossom died very suddenly a couple of weeks back. It's taken me a while to know what to say, we were so shocked.
I went out as normal to feed Buttons and Blossom one morning and she had gone, passed on sometime in the night. We have no idea what happened, but feel ever so slightly relieved that whatever happened happened quickly. She had been happy and hungry and normal the night before.
I guess it is one of the trials of having rescue buns... we didn't know Blossom's age or history. Though she hasn't been ill once while living with us. And after a very nervous bunny who had obviously had little human interaction when she came to us, we were just starting to get really close to her.
Gutted. Rest in peace little Blossom.
Buttons is fine though. Really fine considering.

40 days and 40 nights
It certainly feels like the rain is never ending here. Poor little bunnies aren't getting much outside time at present, nor are the humans :(
So, our visitor Sylvain spent the weekend as follows.
Helping the human to do some work
Trying out the boy's toys... you can see which he preferred!

*GUEST POST* from our house guest
Sylvain from Cottontails writes:
Bonjour, hello my friends.
Yesterday I arrived in Essex, a county in the South East of Great Britain. From here, it is not far to France at all! I hopped out of my travelling case and met my very obliging hosts, Blossom, and Buttons, and their humans of course.
Here are some snaps from my visit so far.
In greeting, I offered my felt carrot to Blossom and Buttons as all good house guests bring gifts... they were not interested in it though... what did I do wrong?
We soon became friends and had a little horse play! It is raining in Essex today so Blossom offered me a ride on her back so my paws would not get damp. They showed me around their shed, and Blossom read some of the Guardian newspaper to me. What cultured little rabbits! I shall like it here!
Buttons invited me into his playroom in the human's house and introduced me to some of the other rabbits that live here...

There was this one guy, called Peter Rabbit, (the one in blue) who regaled us with stories of how he and his cousin Benjamin Bunny crept under a gate into a garden and stole some cabbages! What a riot!
The human then said "I need to get on with some work now Sylvain, and you can sit down and have a cuppa rosie (I googled, apparently this is 'Essexlish' for a cup of tea)... wait til the little man gets home from nursery Sylvain... then we'll have some adventures and show you the real Essex." ooooh, how exciting!
Until next time!

So unimpressed!
So apparently the clocks changed last night, whatever that means! All we know is that we had to wait an extra hour for our breakfast this morning and that stinks! Can someone please call the police? Our human is letting her standards drop!
What's that? It means we get dinner late too????? Unbelievable!

"Like us" Shameless promotion
We've entered a competition at our local vets. All the cute animal photos are going to be judged and the 12 cutest will be made into a calendar, the sales of which are to raise funds for our local pets corner.
Obviously having a small boy we love pets corner. Especially their ducks (as that's the baby's favourite (only) word so far! And it's run by volunteers and recently had their funding cut, like a lot of charities, in this current climate. So support this great little place by supporting us!
Please just click on these links to Facebook and "like" our photos so we can win and be in the calendar.
And tell all your friends to 'like' us too!
Pretty please (we like winning)?
Buttons adds: Hey lady, what's in it for me???
Ps I've tried to make the links linky now! But I'm no web wiz so you may have to return to the days of yore and control A, control C, control V!

Can anyone hear us?
Hello? Hello? Yes we're still here, just busy... Busy being lazy. I think this photo captures Buttons showing how he is offended by his diminishing public profile!
So the baby turned one (crikey!) and of course, we had a rabbit shaped cake!
Buttons and Blossom were mighty offended as I didn't give them any...
Right, back to Olympic viewing (shhhh)

Help!
The human baby has learned to walk... And he is trying to work out how to unbolt our house!!!! Are we to have no peace?!?!?!
We may have to get a combination lock in order to retain our territory and privacy (hehehe that'll fox him, he doesn't know his numbers yet!).

Love <3
It makes me so happy to see my little boy so happy with his new friend! Sigh! They are such an adorable couple.
And Blossom is becoming more trusting of humans already...
Sorry about taking this through the wire, but I knew I was pushing my luck sneaking up on them and trying to photo the snuggling! I tried to open the gate after I took this to get a better photo but of course they took off!

What Bugs a Bunny
Ooooooh sneaky peek!
On Monday, The RSPCA is launching its first ever nationwide campaign to promote pet rabbit welfare!
You can read all about it here (I think a lot more info will be added in the coming weeks):
http://www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaigns/companion/rabbits
Last year we took part in their survey when they were researching the campaign. They asked survey participants to include photos of their bunnies, and you can see them all in Flickr (including one certain handsome young netherland dwarf!). Loads of cute buns all in one place! Sounds like a web page I want to visit!!!

Springwatch bunnies
This is a post for Brits only I'm afraid.
The wonderful BBC1 wildlife programme Springwatch is on our screens at present and most of the country is glued to it.
Anyway I'm excited as they just announced at the end of tonight's programme that tomorrow they are doing a feature on wild rabbits! Yippee!
(this is rare, Springwatch is mostly abouts birds on nests).

Can't wait to watch (I'll sky plus it for Buttons and Blossom :-)

Blossom
My name is Blossom. I never had a name before.
I came here from the rabbit residence rescue, where I've been living for a few months. It was fun there. They had grass! I'd never seen or tasted grass before I went there. There I met Buttons, and his people brought me home to live with Buttons. I'm so pleased they did. I loved all the grass at the rescue, but the grass is sweet here too, and it's tastier now I have Buttons to share it with.
I don't remember how old I am, or where I was born, or if I had any brothers or sisters. I just remember living in a garage, in a small cage. The people there would bring me food and hay sometimes, but sometimes I was hungry and they didn't come and they never swept away my mess. And it was so dark in the garage it made me scared. There were no toys and the people never played with me or stroked my forehead in the nice way the human does here. I was lonely and scared.
Sometimes a lady would come (she said she was a neighbour, but no one has told me what a neighbour is), and bring me water and talk to me nicely. She said she was going to help me. One day this neighbour came and stole me away. She didn't tell my people that she was taking me, but she said that they probably wouldn't notice anyway.
We went on a long car journey which I hated. But at the end was the grassy place! My ordeal wasn't over unfortunately. I had to have lots of visits to the horrible vet who jabbed me and prodded me and made me eat bad tasting things. And the lady at the rescue combed me a lot and trimmed a lot of sticky bits out of my fur (this was horrible at first but I got to enjoy the cuddles and grooming! ). I suppose it was all worth it in the end as I got to play in the grass as a reward and of course, they introduced me to Buttons!

Little miss
Well look who is home! And look who he bought with him! Exciting!
In the last post Buttons was on the left! Well done to those of you that were correct. They are very very similar but Buttons is more gingery and new bun is more grey. And in spite of Buttons looking bigger in the pic below, because he's nearer the camera, in fact little miss is a whole 170g heavier than him, which is a lot when you are less than a kilo big.
So I'll tell you her story and more about her another day when I have more time, but in the mean time, we need your help with naming the little Miss!
Any thoughts?

Update
Oh we've been too busy to blog, (but I do still read all my friends blogs each week, even when I don't have time to comment! ). Rest assured dear readers, we haven't forgotten you!
And so just so you know we are all alive and kicking here's a couple of cute and recent pics of buttons doing his thing!
1. Hiding in a tight corner of the lounge
2. Leaping (lucky i caught this) through the door joining his shed to run!)
And next week hopefully there will be news! Buttons is off on a date this weekend!!! Fingers crossed x you just never know with these fickle lady buns, but hopefully there will be good things to share with you all soon!

La Palais du Buttôns
The grand unveiling! Our wonderful neighbour who is a dab hand at building stuff agreed to build a bespoke run for Buttons to extend his shed. And The human's dad fitted a great little porthole so that when the door is closed at night, or when we are out, buttons can still get out to enjoy some Fresh air. Buttons was not keen on the hammering and sawing, and took refuge for a while under the coffee table in the lounge. When it was all ready we let him out: Buttons knawed through a ceremonial red ribbon and promptly set about nibbling the edges of the new run just to "personalise" his space! Here it is:
Excuse the paint and stuff, we are doing human palace upgrades too!

Happy Easter
It is still (just) Easter here, as it's Easter bank holiday Monday for another three hours. Just a quick note to say despite the dreadful rain, the humans had a lovely Easter.
Buttons however had a fantastic Easter! I have no pictures yet, but we just completed extending and renovating his palace... And it really is a palace now. Pictures to follow soon when the rain stops! In the meantime here's buttons enjoying the garden during a sunny day recently

Obsession
I love all things bunny. I think this has been the case since we had Beep, my first real pet rabbit when I was about 8 (I think, will have to check that with my parents). My favourite stuffed toy when I was little was Becky Bunny, a BIG pink rabbit with a purple dress on, and Velcro hands, in which she held her little pink baby bunny, Bobtail. She might still be my favourite if my mum hadn't "retired" her to the attic when I went to college, as apparently that's too old for stuffed animals ;-)
I did a short inventory of the bunny things in the house this week. Things have crept in, and particularly with the arrival of our son... Babies and bunny toys go hand in hand right?!? And this time of year is my favourite, the shops are full of Easter bunnies.
Here's just a selection of mine. What's your favourite bunny toy?
Chocolate bunny... Hooray for Easter
Cookie cutter
Welcome rabbit (also temp home to boiler control!)
Herb planter
Mug
Attempts at origami
Easter decorations
Book ends
This rabbit was bought for me by the husband when we were newly dating. It smells of vanilla!
Clock!
Lots and lots of baby stuff, particularly Peter Rabbit themed
And not forgetting, my favourite bunny:
There's more, but that might send blogger into meltdown!
